The Stamps Health Services Ambassadors Club provides pre-health students with an opportunity to work with Board Certified physicians in a clinical environment.
Ambassadors volunteer to assist Stamps Health Services in many non-medical functions such as help with paperwork during a vaccine drive, taking blood pressure readings during campus events and helping with new student registration during Fall Semester Welcome Week.
As the 1st chartered club for Georgia Tech pre-health majors, Ambassadors Club students are able to fulfill their pre-medical/pre-health obligations by participating in educational classes such as: how to take blood pressure, casting and splinting, emergency preparedness, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training.
The Ambassadors Club Mentor Program pairs board certified physicians with pre-health Georgia Tech students in either the Primary Care Clinic or Health Promotion.
Mentor Program students “shadow” Stamps Health Services physicians for one semester and discuss patient care, how to look for signs and symptoms of disease, and how to interpret laboratory and x-ray results.
The physicians at Stamps Health Services enjoy providing educational opportunities to Georgia Tech pre-health students. The physicians at SHS are clinical faculty, as well as, preceptors and health educators for the Emory School of Medicine Physician’s Assistant Program.
Dr. Maureen Olson, MD, Medical Director of Stamps Health Services, created the SHS Ambassador’s Club to prepare pre-health students to enter medical school and to assist students to meet voluntary experience requirements in a clinical teaching environment.
The SHS Ambassadors Club is available to all Georgia Tech pre-health students and is run in conjunction with Jennifer Kimball, Director of Pre-Health advisement. Students that wish to become part of the Ambassadors Club may apply online. Students that wish to enter the Ambassadors Mentor Program must first apply to join the SHS Ambassadors Club and then apply separately for the Mentor Program. Students must meet GPA, commitment, and voluntary experience requirements.
